Bryan joined the civil service in 1973. He has worked in a number of
Departments since then, including the Driver and Vehicle Licensing
Agency, the International Road Freight Office, and the former Department of
the Environment and DTI Northern Regional Offices in Newcastle.
Since 1994 he has worked in the Government Office for the North East and
has had responsibility for a number of functions including
- planning casework
- wind-up of the Urban Development Corporations on Tyneside and Teesside
- Single Regeneration Budget in Gateshead and South Tyneside
- establishing and sponsorship of the Regional Development Agency One
North East
- regional and local governance
- regional resilience
- environment and rural policy.
His current responsibilities include leading on regional resilience issues
including regional response to civil emergencies and disruptive challenges,
and operational delivery in the Government Office, the latter covering
sustainable operations, information and knowledge management issues and
other parts of corporate business.
