Fiona joined the Government Office for the North East in August 2008 as
Deputy Regional Director responsible for:
- housing and planning (Department for Communities and Local Government)
- transport (Department for Transport)
- environment, food and rural (Department for Environment, Food and Rural
Affairs)
- energy and climate change (Department of Energy and Climate Change)
Fiona has experience of working in senior posts at both national and
regional level across a range of government departments and agencies and
has been particularly involved in organisational change, restructuring and
strategy development.
Prior to moving to Government Office Fiona was Director of Strategy and
Environmental Futures at Natural England. A member of the Executive
Leadership Group, she was involved in the early design and development of
the organisation. Working with the Board Executive and stakeholders to
consider future trends and issues for the natural environment and the
development of a five-year strategy for Natural England.
Before this, Fiona was regional manager for the Rural Development Service
(RDS) in the North East setting up the organisation in the region and
delivering the European Rural Development Programme’s economic,
environment and training schemes, together with other services.
Fiona has previously worked in London on secondment in the Ministry of
Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and as policy advisor with the Farming and
Rural Conservation Agency. Early delivery experience included positions
with the Countryside Agency, National Trust in Wales and Hampshire County
Council.
