Deputy Regional Director: Local Partnerships and Place

George is Deputy Regional Director for Local Government, Partnerships and Place.

In his first civil service job, George brings almost 30 years of local government experience to improve connections between Whitehall and the 12 North East councils. He is very involved in North East partnerships. Born and brought up in Gateshead, George is passionate about improving peoples’ lives and the places they live, seeking every opportunity to improve the North East and champion the region.

Having began his career with Gateshead Council, George joined from his last post of Assistant Chief Executive in a North West district council. Before that he led policy development at South Tyneside. He also has substantial experience in strategic lead roles including:

  • local strategic partnerships
  • children and young peoples services 
  • health inequalities
  • service improvement.

Having led on partnership development and local authority service improvement for a number of years, George is using this experience to work alongside partners to deliver the Governments policy priorities and represent the interests of the North East in Whitehall.
