We work closely with the Government, mainly the Home Office, Ministry of
Justice and Communities and Local Government and with organisations
responsible for implementing its policies in the region, including:
- local partnerships (mainly crime and disorder reduction
partnerships and drugs action teams)
- National Offender Management Service (prisons and probation services)
- local authorities
- Association of North East Councils
- police forces
- Youth Justice Board
- youth offending teams
- National Treatment Agency for Substance Misuse
- domestic violence and drugs projects.
We provide a link between the Government and these organisations by:
- giving advice, sharing information and ensuring that the local

in various ways, including organising regional meetings and events and
developing regional strategies
- distributing government funding to help the organisations develop and
implement projects in the North East.

We also represent the views of our localities back to the Government, so
that national policy reflects local priorities.
