We use research and analysis to inform our community safety activities and priorities in the region.

The Regional Research and Analysis Programme (RRAP) is part of the Research Development and Statistics Crime and Policing Group's Research and Analysis Unit. Researchers from this programme have a presence in all Government Offices in the regions and in the Welsh Assembly.

The North East Regional Research and Analysis Team is part of the northern cluster that includes researchers from Yorkshire and the Humber and the North West.

The Regional Research and Analysis Programme have four main strands of work:

  1. Supporting performance monitoring of public service agreements (PSAs) – PSA 23 Making communities safer and PSA 25 Reduce the harm caused by alcohol and drugs – and local area agreements.
  2. Building analytical capacity work focuses on supporting the professional development of researchers and analysts in the region. This includes providing training, an analyst network and a quarterly newsletter.
  3. Research and evaluation work includes commissioning, carrying out and promoting the use of social research in the region and nationally.
  4. Briefing and advice work includes contributing to briefings and advising colleagues to help inform regional national decision making.
