We drive local delivery and implementation of the child safety public
service agreement (PSA 13) promoting the safety and welfare of children
in the region. We work with a range of partners to make sure the
principles of Working Together to
Safeguard Children are implemented.
We challenge local areas to focus on identified priorities, monitor
progress and inform key policy developments, with an aim to:
- Strengthen national policies
- Integrate regional strategies
- Drive local delivery.
Our specific priorities to improve children and young people’s safety
in 2010/11 are:
- Working with all Children’s Trusts and Local Safeguarding
Children Boards (LSCB)to drive improvements in safeguarding
- Following up social care inspection reports
- Supporting and challenging Local Safeguarding Children
Boards/Children’s Trusts in relation to Serious Case Reviews (SCRs)
and Child Death Overview Panels (CDOPs)
- Using local knowledge to alert the department and the National
Safeguarding Delivery Unit and influence national policy.
Children in Care
We support and monitor the
implementation of the Care Matters programme of reform, in order to deliver
real and sustained improvements in outcomes for children in care.
