Anchors Away For North East Firms To Join Maritime Exihibition Down Under

Published: Wed, 02 Nov 2005 08:05:49

Companies across the region are being offered the chance to take part in Australia's major international defence and maritime exhibition - Pacific 2006.

UK Trade & Investment and Northern Defence Industries Ltd (NDI), the leading regional focal point for businesses in the defence and aerospace sectors, have joined forces to organise a market visit to the exhibition in Sydney 27 January-4 February 2006.

The biennial show attracted more than 10,000 trade visitors in 2004 and provides a showcase for a comprehensive range of technologies, services and products within the defence and maritime sector from ferries, passenger and cruise ships to tankers and container ships to naval vessels, maritime defence equipment and systems to offshore and underwater technology.

Iain Cunningham, UK Trade & Investment's Regional Specialist International Trade Adviser for the Automotive and Performance Engineering Sector at Business Link Tyne and Wear said:

"Significant investment is expected in the Australian marine sector over the next 15 years which will offer a wide range of opportunities for UK companies while the market also provides an ideal springboard into a number of Pacific Rim countries.

"We're committed to working closely with our many partners across the region to ensure local companies can make the most of these kind of opportunities and we're delighted to be working with NDI once again to organise this visit."

Karl Ward, Supplier Network Manager at NDI, added:

"Our region is home to a great deal of the nation's technical skills as well as the undisputed ability of our workforce. This visit offers an ideal opportunity for companies to test the water in the Australasian marine market as well as learning about new advances in maritime technologies and gain an understanding of the opportunities available to them.

"Expert advice and support will also be available from NDI and UK Trade & Investment throughout and, for a nominal charge, UK Trade and Investment can also provide a report identifying specific business contacts for companies to visit in the market."

UK Trade & Investment will be providing financial assistance for eligible companies participating on the trip that will bring the cost down to £608, inclusive of flights and accommodation.

To find out more and to book your place call the International Trade Hotline on 0845 0505054 or email: enquiries@rito.co.uk. The deadline to register for the trip is 28 November 2005.
