Bellwin Scheme for local authorities affected by flooding in July

Published: Tue, 24 Jul 2007 12:30:08

A further Bellwin Scheme is being set-up to reimburse authorities for costs incurred by them on taking immediate action to safetguard life or property or to prevent severe inconvenience to the inhabitants of their areas.

Full details of the scheme will be sent to authorities who express an intention of making a claim as soon as possible. In the meantime, it is important that authorities notify the Department for Communities and Local Government of any intention to claim within one month of an emergency beginning. The July scheme will not automatically apply to events that began in June unless separate notification for July is received.

The spending period for the July flooding with be from 20 July 2007 to 21 January 2008. Final claims will be invited by 22 February 2008.

The terms of the scheme will be more formally issued to each local authority that makes contact, along with a claim form, once the period for notification comes to an end around the end of August.
