Whirlwind export expansion for Teesside software firm

Published: Tue, 08 Apr 2008 11:05:50

A Teesside software development company has seen its business expand around the world in a "whirlwind experience" in recent years, with support from initiatives run by UK Trade & Investment.

AES Ltd, is a digital technology company established in Billingham 15 years ago.

It has successfully broken into markets from the United States to the Far East with clients in both international business and government agencies now using its range of web applications covering a various management functions and its research, development and consultancy services.

Company directors Joe Telford and Lesley Moody have seen their business flourish with a string of export projects around the world and in their quest to take up opportunities to enter new markets have been supported by advice and guidance from UK Trade & Investment's International Trade Adviser John Holmes-Carrington.

Initiatives such as UK Trade & Investment's Passport to Export have provided financial support to help AES meet the costs of travel, exhibitions, market research and legal advice when making their way into new markets.

In the past six months alone AES has rolled out its on-line formulation management system "FMS" to customers in the food and pharmaceutical ingredient industries in both Japan and China and is in the final stages of completion of an innovative web presence for one of it's American customers. This uses AES's latest application for business, a dynamic, interactive system that lets customers build their own glossy brochures based on information that they really need.

The company's reputation for delivering "Rapid Application Development" (RAD) on-line business systems designed to enable global and international companies to communicate more effectively has led to a growth in business opportunities. As a result, AES has been able to access the US market with its on-line customer relationship management system "CAMS", together with "FMS", in a combined system that has been described by one customer as "the best example of 'joined up thinking' in business management tools in the world".

Managing Director Lesley Moody said:

"It's been a whirlwind experience over the past few years. Targeting the export market with the professional help of UK Trade & Investment in the North East has changed our bottom line and our perspective on the world. Exporting is not for the faint hearted, but for us it has proved an exciting, valuable experience for both staff and the business and we would recommend it to any company keen to widen their horizons."

John Holmes-Carrington, one of UK Trade & Investment's International Trade Advisers, said:

"AES realised there was good potential for its products overseas and with the support of Passport the company has been able to make great inroads into several new markets.

"Passport offers an individually-tailored package of support that can meet a company's needs and we're keen to support others who would like to follow in the footsteps of AES by branching out into new markets."
