Working with places

We work with local authorities and partners in the public, private and third sectors to help transform the delivery of local services to improve the quality of life of people in the region.

We have locality teams that work in the four sub-regional areas in the region.

Locality teams integrate the work we do on policy and delivery in local areas. They have a responsibility for making sure that all levels of partnership working are strong and effective and that we are adding value. We support the delivery of a high performing public sector through local area agreement delivery and comprehensive area assessment, encouraging effective Regional Improvement and Efficiency Partnership engagement.

Locality teams' activities include:

  • representing Whitehall in the region
  • communicating local concerns using evidence and intelligence to challenge government departments to improve policy development
  • leading negotiations on local and multi area agreements
  • helping local areas to understand national policies and concerns
  • supporting areas involved with local government reorganisation
  • circulating good practice
  • encouraging cross-boundary working
  • assisting joined-up solutions within the office and Whitehall
  • monitoring progress and identifying local interventions to improve performance
  • highlighting delivery challenges and successes.
