Government Offices work with local partners to ensure that regions are able to respond to large-scale incidents either within or bordering their regions.
More information on the national picture
Our role is to:
- collaborate with local response organisations, building on their existing skills and capabilities
- improve the North East’s planning and preparation for response, and recovery from, large-scale disruptive events – whether the events are natural, accidental or malicious.
In planning and preparing for such events we have developed links with a wide variety of organisations in the region who have a role to play in responding to civil emergencies. We work closely with these organisations to identify regional risks and, where appropriate, we lead or coordinate the development of regional plans.
A key element of our work is to support the development and operation of the Regional Resilience Forum (RRF), we:
- provide secretariat functions
- provide a single point of contact
- make sure that the region is engaged at both a national level and across the Government Office Network.
We communicate regularly with those who have roles and responsibilities placed on them by the Civil Contingencies Act 2004.
We take part in a number of local, regional and cross-regional exercises which are designed to test the plans and procedures of organisations who have a role to play during an emergency.
We host a number of events for these organisations providing opportunities to meet and discuss issues with senior officials from a variety of central government departments.
