Regional Public Health groups work alongside other government departments and many different partners and agencies to promote health improvement and reduce health inequalities.

A Regional Director of Public Health sits within each Government Office.
He/she is accountable to the Department of Health for translating national
priorities into regional activity as well as ensuring that public health is
considered in all major regional developments and initiatives.
Much of the work done in the North East is now influenced by the regional
Better Health Fairer
Health strategy launched in 2008.
