Additional funding to help schools as Schools Minister praises efforts in flood areas to open for new term

Published: Wed, 05 Sep 2007 15:22:07

Schools Minister Jim Knight today praised staff, parents, governors and local authorities for their successful effort to get badly damaged schools open in time for the start of term.

Jim Knight said:
“I want to congratulate all those who have worked so hard to ensure children’s education won’t suffer. It is a great achievement that after severe flooding in June and July, almost all of the 857 affected schools are reopening on the first day of term. This is testament to the dedication of staff who have put the welfare of young people first – despite many having their own homes flooded."
